Tahkoluoto Offshore has commissioned a study of the economic and employment-related significance of offshore wind power at the regional and national levels.
According to the study, the Tahkoluoto Offshore Wind Farm expansion project in Pori will have an impact of EUR 6.8 billion on GDP over the assessment period, and the employment effect in the Finnish value chain will exceed 18,000 person-years.
Over the course of the assessment period, which is about 50 years long, the offshore wind farm expansion project will generate EUR 8.6 billion in revenue and EUR 6.3 billion in value added. The value of the investments generated by the project is EUR 2.5 billion. The GDP effect will amount to EUR 6.8 billion, and labour demand in excess of 18,000 person-years will be generated.
Tax revenue will amount to approximately EUR 2 billion, consisting of real estate tax, municipal income tax, corporate tax, income tax, taxes on products and production, and value added tax. The calculation is based on the assumption that the real estate tax for offshore wind power will be brought to the same level as the real estate tax for onshore wind power.
The Tahkoluoto Offshore Wind Farm expansion project consists of 40 turbines of approximately 15 megawatts, and the annual output is estimated to be about 1,800–2,600 gigawatt hours.
The study was focused on the direct and indirect economic impacts of the various stages of the expansion project, from project development to construction, production and dismantling. The materials used for the study included the plans for the expansion project as well as actual data on the parts of the Tahkoluoto Offshore Wind Farm that were completed in 2010 and 2017 and are currently in production. The study is based on the EEMRIO input-output model.
